Angeline Eliakopoulos

“To Plant A Cross” tells the story of one of the remarkable saints of the Orthodox Church, Saint Kosmas Aitolos, Teacher for the Nation, Equal to the Apostles, and new martyr. The Ottoman Turks held captive Greece and all the surrounding territories for four hundred Years. Saint Kosmas, a simple monk from Mount Athos, agonized over the illterate and destitute live of his people. He agonized more when Christians abandoned the Faith out of ignorance and neglect.

Saint Kosmas Aitolos conducted four missionary journeys throughout Greece, reawakening the Orthodox spirit and planting the seeds of hope that one day freedom could reign once again in his beloved land. The crosses he planted in every village stood as tall reminders of God's love.

Because of his magnetic preaching, his prophesies, his miracles, and his saintly life, Saint Kosmas was considered a holy man during his lifetime. He helped the village people to which he ministered to see light in the darkness of their enslavement. Saint Kosmas' life continues to teach courage, faith ,hope, patience, and above all love. His life is a reminder of what a tremendous difference one man can make.
